Explore and enjoy the core Islamic depth of Cairo on this full-day walking tour of Cairo . Here you will be learning about the deepest parts of Islamic Cairo as you walk from one Islamic tourist site to another on foot.
Your first stop on this tour is the Mosque of Ibn Tulun. This mosque happens to be largest (based on the size of land area) and the oldest surviving mosque in Egypt , and Africa.
Moving on, your next stop is the Mosque of Al-Mu’ayyad Shaykh. Named after the ruler who constructed it, the Sultan Al-Mu’ayyad. This mosque was previously a prison which not coincidentally was a prison where the Sultan was incarcerated.
After his incarceration, he vowed to turn the prison to an Islamic citadel of knowledge, and he did! Now, the premise houses a Madrasa and the mosque.
Other notable mosques that are included in this walking tour are the Al-Hakim, Al-Azhar, and Al-Aqmar mosques.
On this tour also, you’d get to visit a textile museum, hospitals, a tent shop, mausoleums, and an Ottoman-era mansion. And not to forget the iconic and boisterous Khan el-Khalili bazaar ; where you can shop for traditionally made items such as jewelry, clothing, cutlery, pots, and others.
Your walking tour trip will not be complete if we don’t take you to visit the medieval gates and the city walls.
To make this tour a beautiful one for you, we have included an art historian guide, lunch, and a pickup and drop-off at the hotel in a Wi-Fi-enabled/air-conditioned private minivan.
